This is a very special song. A year ago today, June 12th, 2016, was the Pulse club shooting in Florida. For anyone who doesn’t know The Pulse was a Queer club and was having a latin night the day a man came in, and shot and killed innocent people, resulting in 50 casualties. I specify casualties because the gunman was one of the 50, meaning there were truly 49 victims. But in this song I still count to 50, because I chose to include Christina Grimmie in the list. On June 10th, 2016 Christina Grimmie, who was a musician, was shot and killed at one of her shows which was also in Florida. As a queer musician myself, both of these events happening so close to each other left me very distressed and emotional, and when I feel overwhelmingly emotional, I turn to song writing. So a year ago I wrote this song “Never Forgotten” to help me get through the fear and heart break of these tragedies, and I had hoped that it could help others as well but I unfortunately did not get it fully written that quickly and did not record it a year ago. This song is not just for memorial purposes, but also to encourage staying strong and working towards a day when this type of fear and sadness does not exist. To encourage living with pride for what you do and who you love.
